“The states and federal agencies that comprise the Mississippi River/Gulf of Mexico Watershed Nutrient Task Force, or the Hypoxia Task Force (HTF), continue to work collaboratively to implement the Gulf Hypoxia Action Plan 2008 (2008 Action Plan). Since the release of the plan, each HTF state has developed a nutrient reduction strategy through stakeholder participation that serves as a road map for implementing nutrient reductions in its state; these strategies serve as the cornerstone for reaching the HTF goals.”

Since the Gulf Hypoxia Action Plan was implemented in 2008, timelines for compliance have since changed, but states are slowly starting to implement their Nutrient Loss Reduction Strategies. Some municipalities have already started presenting industry timelines on when their phosphorus/nitrogen discharge limitation change will go into effect. Many of these discharge limitations have still yet to be determined.
With that said, chemical and physical removal of phosphorus in waste water is currently one of the dominating removal strategies.
Coral Chemical Company offers a waste water treatment product combination for the treatment of phosphorus and heavy metals.
CORCAT W84L and CORCAT W85L were specifically designed to reduce phosphorus while removing and reducing heavy metals. The dosage of the products is specifically based on the incoming phosphorus load. Reducing phosphorus from >100 ppm to 10 ppm is relatively easy. The lower you go from 10 ppm, the more challenging the removal efficiency becomes. Going from 10 ppm to 5 ppm requires more chemistry, while going
A Coral customer that utilizes two zinc-phosphate pretreatment spray systems uses Coral’s product combination of CORCAT W84L and CORCAT W85L in their waste water treatment system. The customer currently has a limit of 10 ppm of phosphorus, but consistently gets internal results of
